It’s no secret that I am all about healthy living and natural remedies. If we chat for more than 10 minutes, chances are that the conversation will turn that way at least once.
But honestly, the excuse I hear the MOST is “eating healthy is SO expensive”.
And it is true, our grocery and supplement budget is higher than someone who eats the Standard American diet. However, we also spend next to nothing on going to the doctor for being sick…. But I digress.
Even if you are not ready to go gangbusters on the healthy living lifestyle, there ARE some simple changes you can make.
In fact, I’ve put together a pretty darn good list of healthy switches that will actually SAVE you money.
So not too long ago the stomach bug hit our house HARD. Both the little and Nate were puking their guts out (though thankfully not on the same days). Really and truly, this rarely happens. I can count on one hand the times that Nate has been sick since we have been married. We work very hard to take fortify our immune systems and it shows. But this dang bug slipped by.
I was SO incredibly thankful that we were well stocked on all of our favorite (and proven) natural wellness tools.
It’s no secret that “masking” is all the rage in the beauty industry. There are a BILLION options out there. While some boast amazing results and show some pretty stunning before and after photos, many of these “super masks” have some pretty questionable ingredients.
I am a firm believer that what you do daily is much more important to the long-term health of your skin than what you do occasionally. However, I do also believe that the “extra” things you add into your skin care regimen can also be highly beneficial IF you choose the right products.
Just google “natural face wash”, “natural skincare” “Natural____” and the results are overwhelming.
Where do you start? What actually works? What products have legitimately clean ingredients in them?
Feeling a little overwhelmed? Been there. I feel ya.
Warm weather is upon us, my friends. And with it comes all the pollen, dust, weeds, and everyone’s favorite: seasonal allergies.
I remember a time when I was quite literally on 2 or 3 different allergy medicines at a time. They were prescribed by my very well-meaning and beloved family doctor. To be quite honest, they DID help me feel better. We did the best we knew how to at the time.
Fast forward several years, and this kid is on zero prescription meds and zero over the counter allergy pills. None. Zip. Zero. Zilch.
In our journey to use healthy products in and on our bodies, some things have been easier to swap out than others. One of the hardest things for me to switch over was my deodorant. I have always been really good at sweating. What can I say, it’s a skill.
When I played sports in high school, I distinctly remember buying stronger and stronger deodorant because my old stuff “wasn’t working” to keep me from sweating. Hearing that the aluminum is what helped me not sweat, I started choosing deodorants with higher and higher aluminum content. Dumb move, kid. Dumb move.
Oh how I wish that I had known then what I know now about deodorant. Hindsight is 20/20 though isn’t it?
I will be the first to admit that it’s no fun to be sick, there are lots of easy, natural things to help prevent catching a cold or flu, or get better faster.
My husband and I hardly ever get a full blown cold because of all the things we do to help keep our immune system strong and resilient.
But, when we do occasionally get sick, we are able to get better WAY faster than our average neighbor using the following techniques.
You see it every year. A huge push by diet companies to help you “not gain that holiday weight” before Thanksgiving and then another huge push to “lose those holiday pounds” after the New Year. I have overheard more than one conversation about how “I gained so much weight over the holidays” or “I need to lose this holiday weight”. And while the actual number gained may be exaggerated by marketing campaigns, the point is, don’t let what is supposed to be a celebration sabotage your progress.
It’s REALLY hard to be loving when you feel like poo.It’s also really hard, and in some instances impossible, to work hard at what you’ve been called to do when you are sick. It’s also difficult to work hard or put in long hours when you are physically weak or out of shape. You NEED to be healthy and fit for your God given assignments. WE need you to be healthy and fit. Those you are called to reach need you to be healthy and fit.
A few years ago, I desperately and immediately had to switch over my personal care and hair care products to natural replacements. Unfortunately, I had several, and I do mean several, bad experiences with hair care products. Many of them left my hair looking like I just won a marathon where they threw bacon grease on the champion.
So many shampoos just didn’t do a good job of getting my hair CLEAN. To put it quite frankly, they sucked. (Sorry Grandma. I couldn’t think of a better word)
Now, all you precious people who can do the “no poo” method, bless you. And all you lovelies that don’t sweat on your scalp much, well bless you and your stay-clean-for-a-week hair.
I sweat like a pig on a hot July day when I work-out, and resemble a homeless person if I do not shower and wash my hair immediately.
